Its about the end of February, Spring seems so close but you look outside and it seems so far away. We got a lot of work ahead of us once this snow melts, so get those shovels and backs ready. I guess blogger site is changing things around soon and will not support FTP, so this site is gonna change a bunch. Who knows probably simplify things a bunch and just do important updates on the trails and have a simple blog.

Got a very strange magazine in the mail the other day from Japan, looking at the cover and thru the whole thing its just motorcycles then near the end an article about Catty. Definitely the craziest thing for Catty to end up in a Japanese Street Bike magazine. I remember in the summer this dude Taco from Japan was here taking photos so I guess it somehow ended up in this magazine. It would be rad if we could get it translated into English. I guess Mark T is huge in Japan now.

Wow 2010 already we don't have flying cars yet, but we got legit trails. What a year for Catty Woods, thanks to everyone who helped out in anyway and 2010 should be even better. The battle still is not over yet as we still have some more money to raise thou. If you still need the new dvd go to The Source to pick one up. Ray's in only a couple days should be rad, weather looks good as well, which doesn't matter but everyone is gonna be driving far. Well Clint has stepped it up and started modifying shovels, check out Credence to see what he has going on. Shields skatepark in Jersey moved to a new building, its basically the same skatepark as before but at least its somewhere warm to ride, and they have a trampoline for tramp bike sessions. pics below..

Video sales have dropped off recently, so for an Xmas special I'm selling them for 6.50 till the end of the year then after that I'm taking them off the site. Will try to get Dan's Comp to buy a bunch of them hopefully, then if people need them they can get them from there. You'll get the new Pawoods shovel sticker with the video as pictured below. Big thanks to everyone who purchased a video thou, it really helps out. Ray's weekend is definitely going on January 9th and 10, will be there selling videos and shirts and some of the proceeds for admission to the park go to us. If you have never been there I suggest you check out the website where you can get a taste of what it looks like. Ive never been there before but cant wait to go, everyone you talk to says its the best place you can ride a bike indoors. well merry holidays and all that stuff, see ya next year...

It's snowing yet again, winter hibernation is setting in for a lot of people. I thought I would dwell on the subject of shovels for a little bit. Basically without shovels you can not build trails, everyone who builds trails has their favorite shovel. It seems every year shovels get worse and worse as they don't last long, you buy a shovel a month later its broken or the metal is cracked. Are we using them that hard or are products just being made cheaper and cheaper every year. You can go with the always trusty wooded handle shovel, but they seem to snap like a twig after a month of use. Then for awhile it seemed as if fiberglass shovels were the way to go, but this year I swear every fiberglass shovel just shattered after about 2 months of use. It would be nice if some company catered to making shovels for the trail builder but I don't see that happening unless a bike company decides to do it. After all the years of building trails its crazy how picky you can be with a shovel, without the right shape it seems hard to work with. Bronco flat shovels seem to be a shovel of choice, really light, perfect shape and the cheapest shovel out there. Personally the heavier the shovel is the hardest it is to shape jumps, which makes you think shovels are like bikes the lighter the better. Maybe sometime this spring will do a shovel test with a bunch of different shovels to give everyone a better idea on what shovels to get. It all comes down to personal preference thou. now we just need to wait till the ground thaws and we can dig again, hopefully this winter is a short one and will all be smacking those lips with flats..

So Robbo and Pete have been selling the Pawoods dvds in England, well Pete took some to the Case magazine launch party or whatever. He had about 16 or 17 in a bag and he takes his eyes off them for a second and someone steals the whole bag. Wow I didnt know people could really sink to that low, you basically stole dvds that support the trails and what not. So if anyone knows anything about this situation that would be great, you can keep it anonymous in the comments, we just want the dvds back. And if you buy a dvd off someone other then Robbo or Pete then you know that's the guy who took them. Thanks to those guys for selling the dvds thou, otherwise they have been selling real good. Yes it snowed as well here, winter is definitely here now......

Went to Hackettstown Skatepark the other night and its rad to see that place still around and always changing. The new set up is pretty good the photo below kind of gives you a good view of how it is now.

I think the extended trail season is over, weather is definitely getting colder and sicker which sucks. I guess it's skatepark season now if your into that, PennSkate has had the little devil bowl for a year now and its almost ready to ride, wow. If you dont know already the new pawoods dvds are for sale, seems like no one is buying them at all. Still trying to get a hold of anyone in Japan willing to get some, every year they get a ton of them but cant seem to get in contact with anyone. Remember it supports the trails and helps us with the costs which are ridiculous. This winter we are trying to do a lot of digging, sort some stuff out before spring so we dont have to worry about it. So come on down and help out its worth it to get it done now then relax for a bit. Quick review of Fit Life and Range of Motion dvds, Fit Life worst video Ive seen in awhile, Range of Motion first video I seen in awhile where I wanna watch all the way thru more then once.

Here is a little rant on the popularity of trails now, it's just an opinion so take it as it is. It seems like everywhere in magazines, internet, and videos trails are making a come back, which is rad. It seems that in other countries it really is a main part of riding. As for in the states here, I think it's the opposite. With bikes being sold without brakes now almost every young kid gets into riding brakeless and just strictly rides street. There is no problem in that but it almost seems like a trend and if your not doing that then why bother riding. The internet really shows that everyone is just riding brakeless and nibbling around. Half the kids don't even know what trails are anymore or how to even jump anything with tranny. Back in the 90s trails were the big thing and its what all kids started out at. Now most trail riders in the states are over 25. The problem I see happening is no young kids getting into trail riding and most trails being take care of by people who wont be riding much longer makes you wonder if in a few years down the line if trails will even exist here. Just by making videos every year you can really see how no one is interested in buying trail videos in the states and mostly the video sells in other countries. Basically in a nut shell just trying to say more kids should try to explore bike riding more and bring the fun back into trails and hopefully get more trails popping up in the states. It would be a shame to see all the trails die out because its portrayed to just ride street and not have brakes anymore. Will see what happens in the coming summers, or as some say this can all be a blessing in disguise. ride on..

Also I haven't seen the video yet but RideBMX new video Range of Motion is out now, seen a pretty good thing on Fuel TV about it. Bunch of Catty clips in there and what not, and everyone pretty much says the trails trip was the best, are trails really that popular again more on that in a later post.

After some technical issues the pawoods 10 year anniversary DVD is here. It's been a long time in the making and all the info on the video can be found on the dvd link up top. It's important to only buy the video if your in the United States. All other countries will be getting the video soon so hold tight. If anyone is interested let us know its also gonna go up on ebay for auction but maybe we can work some deal out before its put on ebay. I give up on checking the weather it changes every hour it seems, and they were way wrong this week when it rained for 2 days straight when they called for sunny skies. The jam is definitely going down Sunday, we spent all day today raking leafs and drying stuff out. Action Wheels hooked us up with some gift certificates for the raffle. Big thanks to them, seems like everyone is down for helping out the cause which is great and no need for people to get mad about helping us out. Once again out of nowhere it is raining, the whole week was supposed to be nice now looks like rain till Thursday. I dont think its possible to plan a jam ahead of time and it ever to work out nice. There's no chance of rain Sunday but will definitely need a lot of help getting the trails ready with all this rain now, come out Saturday to lend a hand and bring a raincoat since they are calling for rain that day. Tarps might be the best invention this decade, well for the trails. With all this rain we been getting the trails have still been good because of the tarps. The forecast for Sunday looks iffy, 30 percent chance of rain, should be good thou, definitely come out regardless because of the raffle. Just in case you don't know, no alcohol allowed at the trails either, you can do your drinking Friday and Saturday night. Also a prize for best costume and we have been thinking about doing a find the bike part in the leaf pile for 1 dollar. Panamoka jam went down yesterday big thanks to those guys for helping with the fund raising cause.

We got a real good hookup the other day from a new bike shop in southside Bethlehem. They hooked us up with a complete FBM bike, we are not sure if we are gonna raffle it off or auction it off but will keep you updated on that. Big thanks to Cutters Bike Shop thou, real nice people and even thou they mostly deal with mountain bikes check them out if your near the Sands Casino. Things are coming along real nice for the raffle/jam, Ill have some photos up soon of what some of the prizes will be. We are also adding a long jump contest that day and all the money for that will go to Ben down in Texas who is gonna be in the hospital for awhile recovering. For awhile now we have talked about doing a pretty big contest train style down at the woods to raise money and such. We even had Red Bull interested and it still might happen next year now that the trails are legit. We don't want to start no internet drama, but its kind of messed up the idea is being used by other trails now and I think (do not quote me) Catty is the only trails right now that needs a lot and a lot of money to keep going year after year. We basically want to get all the legal fees and insurance money payed for so we don't have to worry about it every year. It would suck to have to charge people to ride which we want to never happen. Anyway finally checked out the new Mutiny video and it is awesome. Not only is the riding and quality so good, but Abe's mustache is out of hand in it, it might be worth to buy just for that. here are some new photos, Sam is protime by the way>>

Some thought the day would of never come but the trails are finally LEGIT, it doesnt mean the war is over thou, since we owe a lot of money. Anyway there are so many people to thank, its insane it finally happened and really it's all because of everyone who supports the trails. WE know it was a rough road but big thanks to Catty Borough and the LVIA airport, and the airport will be getting a lot of business from people all over the world flying into the airport to come here. The new Pawoods video is gonna be a great last video to showcase the scene around here in the past 10 years, its going to be like a big thank you video from us. Remember to fill out the waiver to ride the trails and you must have brakes and be over 18 to ride. I been talking to Ted about the jam at his house, he's shooting for October 11th and its 20 dollars all you can drink and eat. More details on that as it approaches sooner. The November 1st raffle is going to be at the woods and we will probably have about 10 different prize packages to give out, so definitely come out for that, Sunday is hooking us up with a trails frame so its definitely worth the 10 bucks for the ticket. We do have some bad news thou, our friend Ben from Texas who always comes to visit here got hit by a car the other day, so keep him in your thoughts. that's all for now hit up all those sponsors who help us out and buy something from them..

So Photobucket has a bandwidth limit just like everything else does now, and the limit is almost reached so for a couple days some of the photos will not work. Anyway it's been a long journey trying to get the trails official, well we are almost there. We finally got the breakdown of the legal fees catty borough incurred and wow it wasn't good news. No one will believe how much money we owe, it's insane how much we are getting charged, I cant even talk about it because it makes me sick thinking about it. But the good news is a lot of people are helping out with donating and helping us pay that money back. So buy a shirt, donate to the Paypal account, and just spread the word on what's going on. There's all new links at the top so check that out, and if you ride the trails print the waiver out and fill it out so we can keep it on file. We made a commercial for Props so keep your eyes out for that in upcoming issues, thanks for them for hooking it up.

Lot's of stuff going on lately, its crazy, weather was awesome for the longest streak of no rain we had all year until today we are getting hit with a lot of rain. I uploaded Marky T and Geoff's section from Save the Woods. Its pretty much on every site so Im sure you seen it somewhere, congrats to Marky T who is on Orchid flow now. We made new Catty Woods shirts but they sold out already, we are getting more made so keep a look out for them. Pittsburgh jam this weekend, and Blue Mountain has started BMX trails to go along with their mountain bike stuff, I guess there is a contest on Saturday. Jam at Barry's trails in North Jersey on Sunday as well. Told you a lot of stuff is going on, plus in the near future, this nice guy Ted is having his annual jam at his house and this year it benefits Catty, so big thanks to him. Im probably forgetting about something else, but thats all for now. Soon enough you will be able to download the waiver that everyone needs to fill out to ride Catty.

Wow the weather is nice, this is what we been asking for all summer, no rain and no humidity. Just spoke to Murph and he is gonna hook up some DeadMemory stuff for the raffle, and he is having some huge sale for clothes online. Once again things have changed big time, we need a large amount of money to keep catty woods going. After a fence was not needed it is said in the lease a fence is needed now which is a ton of money and a big project none the less. With the way the economy is going we are in a really tough spot we worked our asses off raising money and what not but we keep getting more and more obstacles thrown at us. If anyone has any good ideas or wants to donate a large amount of money contact us. Its a shame one of the world's most famous trail spots is in danger of being no more and its all because of the all mighty dollar.

Bad trail news out in England, from what I heard is Robbo, Frog, and friends trails got plowed or some of the trails plowed, they are working with the landowners to get something worked out. Let's hope they can save that place it truly is a unique set of trails with the landscape of the woods. Here's a video of the place that was just posted online..

Been away a few days and Ntown park is just getting more and more crazier, legit, whatever you wanna call it after seeing this going on.

Ntown might be the world's first cement, wood, and dirt combined skatepark, in one run you will be able to hit cement to dirt back to cement to wood.

A big thanks to everyone helping especially Gene Zarayoekokoskso who is the man from the borough who has come thru big time, and now Mike Yost coming thru with cement. Come down and help out this week, prolly getting a cement truck in the middle to the end of the week. Help or dont come down at all since there are so many lazy kids these days who need to put in some effort on the stuff they ride instead of just riding it. I dont care if you dont wanna help, dont just sit there and watch and wait till its done to ride it go nibble somewhere else.

A couple of us decided to go hit up some cement parks in the southern part of PA, we had no clue what to expect so Im gonna do some ranting right now. As everyone knows its been a constant battle with bikes being allowed at skateparks, so you never know what is gonna happen when you go to a concrete park that is free. We get to the first park located in York which is actually really good but filled with tons of skaters, hesitant at first we talk to a few locals and they say its cool to ride just respect everyone. It ended up being ok with no drama expect Marky T getting mad at kids for sitting in the big bowls or basically trying to skate a 10 foot bowl and not even go up a foot on it. We actually heard some stories from some kids saying there has been fights between skaters and riders, which is just ridiculous we both want to ride the same stuff and it never makes sense the two sides can not coexist sometimes. After leaving the park we headed to Lancaster to ride another cement park but not before finding another skatepark that was locked up, which was useless. Get to Lancaster and there is actually 1 person skating. He says he does not care if we ride and after 5 or 10 minutes a park ranger shows up and basically gives us the attitude like we are breaking some crazy law. Were like ok we are leaving sorry for having fun, he gets a serious ego trip spell or whatever u wanna call it. Then out of nowhere says well I was gonna let you guys go but your being cocky. His actual quote was "we were huffing and puffing and someone was walking up the hill moving there tires back and forth". Wow was this dude nuts, after the usual take the licenses and writing our info down and trying to find out if we have warrants he's like yeah you might get some fines in the mail. Then he says you guys are too old for this. So basically from all of this nonsense and mess I realize BMX will always be discriminated and it makes no sense at all because I guess its ok to play football or baseball or whatever damm sport you wanna play till whatever age you want but I guess society says you cant ride a bike past a certain age. No wonder the country is going downhill fast, too many people are close minded and worry about stupid things like kicking kids out of a skatepark which is a public park so they are the real lawbreakers... Check the photos below for a few pics of the quick sessions and next time you get busted riding a concrete park just tell them hey man sorry for having fun and not doing what society says is right...

What inspires you to still dig trails when usually most trails end up being plowed or just abandoned?

First and foremost the hug amount of amazing people I have met throughout the years and the do-not careing lifestyle of many of them and mine.

In the early days of riding trails we would find a location to dig, dig our asses off for months in the winter get to ride them for the summer and then they would get plowed in the following winter. This trend continued from when i started riding in 2000 to 2004. Then we had around 3 spots over the next 2 years which we bulit in the winter and never got to ride them after either coming to the woods to see them levelled or being chased out by police or the landowners...haha we have had two sets of trails plowed due to the damned bluebells. I guess in england they are a 'endangered species' of flower and it is a big no no and terrible sin to harm them. We must have dug around 10-15 sets of trails in a 10 year period.

I guess the main reason i still have the will to try is im happy putting endless hours in to digging if only to end up with one good sesh because there is nothing like building and riding what you've sown, its fine to just visit others trails but the sense of achievement is not there and creating stuff to your own taste, there is nothing else like it.

Finally in 2006 after being chased out of some woods we asked a farmer if he had any land we could use and astonishingly he said yes and there was never any talk of liability on his part or insurance and it has been the same ever since and lets leave it that way please. The trails are in a field and although we crave for the atmosphere and ideal of the woods at least we know it is not getting plowed. It is hard because we have been used to woods from the start and the problems of it drying out much faster and cracking under the sun are annoying to say the least . Its never going to be as smooth, diverse and dialed as we'd like but you have to count your blessings sometimes.

Most people ride street these days and don't have a clue about trails since they purchased a brand new bike without brakes. If you could get someone to ride trails by explaining it to them what would you say to convince them to put some brakes on and try riding some trails??

I know many people who are good at all areas of bmx and like them for different reasons. errrr i have tried many times to convince people.

I think a lot of what it comes down to with most hardcore street or skate park riders is the extra effort involved. Most can't even fathom the idea of putting some of their own precious hours in to building trails and thats fine by me. Asides from this the people i can convince have a go and find they are in fact extremely sketchy at riding trails and haven't realized the fact that there are different skills involved and give up because they don't look as cool as they do at the skate park and don't put the time in to find out what trails riding is all about.

I guess what I would say is try it, stick at it for a bit and I promise you it will pay off as soon as you reach that comfortable zone when you can get through a line or even just a 6 pack and not feel sketchy or intimidated and then anything can happen, you don't know real BMX until you have experienced the feeling of hitting a 20-30 foot set for the first time shouting shit! shit! shit! shit! through the air and landing sweet with an awesome adrenalin rush and a feeling of relieve but accomplishment.

What kind of shovel is your favorite?

Bronco flat long shovel from home depot? The ones I'd dig with at catty, however I have recently found one just like it from wyvale garden centre in England which I bought for five quid broken and fixed easily, the norm in England is a 3ft back breaker with a dismal none smoothing friendly head. They are hard to find here that's for sure! I'm getting on well with it but its early days.

What is your favorite trick?

Launching of a lip at 30mph over a 30 foot set or launching of a boomer and being 20ft of the ground with a good nosedived tuck.

Describe an ideal day at the trails?

It would start with sunny but not humid to the teeth weather and no hangover. Damp and grooved and not dried out trails. Smooth some stuff up to make it extra dialed and good for the day not 10 minutes and its hagged. Everyone rides and is syked on how the trails are running, some craziness goes down and some sweet trains get going and I don't crash too hard.

I'd either be with Catty locals or Villij locals or at our own trails. If at catty I would have to hear Trievel's manly voice bellowing the funniest shit throughout the woods and you heckling me to film a run with your camera or do a run for you. I would also have to get some filming done on my camera which I'm happy with. Edgar would be lurking around being rad and chuckling. Bugbee would have everyone in hysterics at the seating/hangout area, abe would be addicted to scratch cards and sending Danny Dangit to fetch more from pantry one for some candy. Flash would be ogling skirts and T-mac would be smiling from ear to ear and stoned then roasting like you have never seen. Finally everyone would leave to continue the good times throughout the night.

The people. I have never met so many different types of awesome people before in my life. The feeling of just flowing through jumps is like nothing else. And the fact that I can wake up every morning and know that I have a spot to ride all day that I won’t get kicked out of by the cops.

Everything you do down 20 stairs you can do over every jump at the trails without blowing your knees and ankles and wrists out. You here about this kid killing it on street and then you see him sending himself down shit and then a year later he can’t even riding a bike anymore. I think its just stupid. Put brakes on and if you don’t want to use them take your finger off.

Flat. You can move 20 tons of dirt in no time.

Get down there early, do some digging and dialing in. Sort out what ever needs sorted out. Then as all the out of towners start showing up, show them around and have some laughs. Then start riding. Get some lunch around 1. Come back and start yelling at people for sitting around haha. Ride till the sun goes down laughing the whole way there doing as many no footers as possible.
